Students honor outstanding professors for their dedication and contribution to the Kellogg culture

By Amy Trang

12/16/2009 -  Fourteen Kellogg professors have been recognized by Kellogg students in honor of their commitment to the classroom and the student experience. These faculty members are the latest recipients of the Faculty Impact Awards, a Kellogg Student Association initiative launched during the 2008-2009 academic year.

The award recipients take teaching to the next level and are active in creating the unique Kellogg culture, from sharing career advice to creating distinctive experiences in the classroom. Until recently there has been only one award — the L.G. Lavengood Outstanding Professor of the Year —to honor such professors, noted Lauren Passero ’10, academic vice president of the Kellogg Student Association.

The KSA wanted to acknowledge faculty members throughout the year, which led to the creation of the quarterly Faculty Impact Awards, Passero said.

Professors are nominated by students, who invite their section classmates to sign a petition in support of the nomination. The selected professors receive an engraved certificate recognizing their contribution to the Kellogg community.

“The KSA felt it was important for faculty members to know how much students appreciate all the work they do for us in and out of the classroom,” Passero said. “Faculty Impact Awards provide a means for students to acknowledge these tremendous efforts and thank professors who have made a difference in their education.”
