Application Requirements

Admission to the Executive MBA Program is contingent upon the full completion and submission of all materials listed below. All applicants must complete an online application, submit two letters of recommendation, interview with our admissions team in-person and supply a letter of sponsorship from your employer. Most applicants do not need to submit GMAT scores. Kellogg does not require financial sponsorship from its Executive MBA applicants, but time sponsorship is mandatory. For more on sponsorship, visit our sponsorship guide.

To apply to the Executive MBA Program, please complete and submit the following:

Please complete your application online. Remember to include your work history, résumé and essays.

Possible essay questions include:

  • What do you want to achieve in your professional life? What have you already done to get there and how do you think Kellogg can help you?
  • What is Kellogg’s value proposition for you and how will you make Kellogg stronger by being part of our community?
  • If needed, use this section to briefly describe any extenuating circumstances (e.g. unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, etc.).

Letters of recommendation

You are required to provide two letters of recommendation. The first letter should be from your immediate supervisor; the second letter may come from a peer, former supervisor or other individual who knows you well. You may submit additional recommendations if you wish. Upon entering your recommenders’ contact details, they will receive an email from Kellogg with a link containing specific response prompts. They may then submit their letters online, following the instructions provided to them.

Sponsorship letter from your organization

Your organization is required to supply a letter stating that it supports and approves the time required for you to attend the Executive MBA Program. If your organization is providing financial sponsorship, please state that in the letter as well. (However, you are not required to have financial sponsorship.)

The letter of support must:

  • Appear on company letterhead
  • Be signed by someone in the organization who has authority to grant the time off
  • Acknowledge your interest in the program
  • Approve any time off needed to attend classes
  • Confirm that you will not be penalized for any time used to attend the program
  • If applicable, explain the level of financial support the organization is willing to provide

Official transcripts

You are required to submit official transcripts from all universities and colleges you have attended in the United States and abroad, whether you graduated from the institution or took just one class. To qualify as an official transcript, it must be sent directly to us from your institution, and contain the signature or seal of the university registrar. Official electronic transcripts can be emailed directly from the issuing university to: If unable to provide an electronic transcript, please have your institution send a hard copy version, in a sealed envelope, to:

Kellogg School of Management Executive MBA Admissions
James L. Allen Center

If you have transcripts from an institution outside the United States, you must have them evaluated on a course-by-course basis by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Visit for a list of all university-approved agencies. This course-by-course evaluation report, once received from the NACES-approved agency, will count as your official transcript for application purposes.

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email and link to schedule an interview with an admissions officer. To make the most of your trip, we suggest taking a tour of the campus and facilities during your Kellogg visit.

These interviews are mandatory and must take place on the campus to which you are applying (Evanston or Miami). To schedule your interview, please visit the link provided upon submission, call the Evanston office at 847.491.3622, the Miami office at 305.442.7780, or email

The application fee is $150. It is charged when you submit your application online.

Honor Code agreement

The Kellogg Honor Code is a part of the online application. Please read this section carefully.

Test Scores

The Executive MBA Program does not require GMAT scores for most applicants.

If the applicant does not have a bachelor’s degree, however, the GMAT is required. In addition, applicants may be asked to take the GMAT if the initial review of their transcripts reveals specific areas of concern. The admissions committee will only make this request in specific circumstances.

All candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents must show their English language proficiency by sending valid TOEFL or IELTS scores. Students taking the TOEFL must take the Internet Based Test (IBT). The average TOEFL score for a Kellogg Executive MBA student is 104, and applicants must score a minimum of 100. Applicants who take the IELTS must score a minimum of 7.0. We have the right to request the Test of English to be completed.

To prevent processing delays, we strongly recommend that you upload your official TOEFL or IELTS score report (if available) with the application.

Exemptions may be granted if one of the following criteria is met:
  • The applicant completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at a college or university in the United States.
  • The applicant takes or has taken the equivalency of English 101 and 102 at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • The applicant completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at a college or university where English was the only language of instruction.
  • If you qualify for this exemption, you must provide the exact URL or documentation from your institution that states English was the only language of instruction.
  • If you graduated from an institution that does not explicitly state this, please provide the URL for the homepage of the school’s website.
The Program reserves the right to require assessment of English language proficiency even if these exemption criteria are met.
