Kellogg launches new MBA courses in AI and machine learning
Artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming how businesses operate, compete and grow. Tomorrow’s leaders will need the ability to ask the right questions, spot the best opportunities and guide their teams through both innovation and ethical application using these new tools.
To prepare students for this new era in business, Kellogg will launch a new series of MBA courses focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning in Fall 2025. To offer students a truly cross-disciplinary learning opportunity, we will offer a foundational course taught from not just one department, but among five departments, each with a unique vantage point on this multi-faceted field.
These courses in the Full-Time MBA and Evening & Weekend MBA Programs are designed specifically to offer a practical, cross-disciplinary introduction to AI to MBA students.
“This new curriculum is about more than technology — it’s about equipping students with the strategic mindset to lead responsibly in a world shaped by it,” says Deputy Dean Jan Van Mieghem. “With a focus on cross-functional learning, ethical frameworks and real-world application, this new offering will help students become the kind of leaders businesses need now and in the future.”
New course: AI Foundations for Managers
The centerpiece of this new curriculum is a five-week, high-impact course called AI Foundations for Managers. This course equips students with the tools to understand and evaluate AI technologies in real business contexts.
What sets this course apart is its multidisciplinary design. Several versions of the AI Foundations for Managers course will be offered each quarter, taught by faculty from one of five different departments: marketing, strategy, operations, finance or management.
This will allow students to explore AI from the perspective most relevant to their interests and career goals, or take two different versions of the course for a deeper dive.
Students will explore five key themes:
- Introduction to AI – Understanding what AI is, how it works and why it matters in business
- Machine Learning Fundamentals – Exploring supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning
- Generative AI – Applying text and image generation tools in real-world business contexts
- Ethics and Governance – Navigating fairness, accountability, regulation and the future of AI
- AI in Business – Learning about practical applications and frameworks for implementing AI in different industry and organizational settings
Whether students are interested in how AI is shaping consumer behavior, supercharging operations or changing how organizations make decisions, they will find a version that aligns with their path.
Building toward advanced electives
Students who want to go further can take advanced electives that explore the behavioral, organizational and technical implications of AI in greater depth. These courses will build on existing courses: Human and Machine Intelligence; Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work; and Applied Advanced Analytics. These already popular electives are being updated with fresh content reflecting today’s rapidly evolving AI landscape.
All of these new courses are available to both Full-Time and Evening & Weekend MBA students, with class times that will fit a variety of schedules. In future years, the AI Foundations for Manager class will be added to all Kellogg degree programs.
This new curricular offering reflects our commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and frameworks needed to navigate emerging technologies. By grounding AI education in management practice, Kellogg aims to prepare graduates to lead thoughtfully in an increasingly data-driven world.
