Leaving a generous legacy
The Class of 2012 presents the Kellogg School with an outright gift of nearly $130,000
Graduation is a time to give back. And on June 1, the Kellogg School’s Class of 2012 did just that, presenting Kellogg administrators with a “check” for nearly $130,000.
The total sum of $128,559 is an outright gift to the school — a departure from previous class-gift campaigns, which encouraged students to pledge an amount to be fulfilled over the subsequent two to four years.
The class achieved a 92 percent participation rate, meeting a matching-gift challenge by a classmate who offered to contribute an additional $20,000 if participation reached between 90 and 99 percent. The grand total also included a $10,000 matching gift from Clinical Professor of Management & Strategy Harry M. Kraemer Jr. ’79, who challenged the graduating class to raise a minimum of $50,000.
Kellogg Dean Sally Blount sweetened the pot even further with her surprise announcement at the presentation.
“I am just floored at what you did and how you redesigned the giving campaign,” she said. “Out of gratitude, I am going to add a personal check in the amount of $12,000 because you are the Class of 2012.”
