What’s in a Weekend?

Well, it’s officially March, and finals are not just around the corner but firmly on this side of the corner, and my second quarter at Kellogg is more or less complete.

Looking back over my past couple of weekends, it’s not surprising that we’re all shocked that the quarter went by in the blink of an eye.  On top of recruiting, classes and, you know, life in general, we’ve had some pretty fabulous Kellogg events that I’ve been lucky enough to take part in.  Here are some highlights from the past month:

Day at Kellogg

* Day at Kellogg (DAK) – our admitted students weekend – there’s truly nothing like it.  A ton of effort goes into planning a weekend that not only gives you all of the information you could possibly need to make your MBA choice but also gives you a true idea of what life at Kellogg is like.  As a section leader, I met incredible admitted students whom I can’t wait to see roaming the halls of Jacobs in the fall, and I can’t wait to meet more at DAK II in April.

* Charity Auction Ball 2012: A Night Under The Big Top – completely student run (what at Kellogg isn’t, really?), the Charity Auction Ball is the big formal event of second quarter.  Kellogg students dressed to the nines and headed downtown to the River East Arts Center to bid on everything from excel classes to a poker night with a group of rock star professors.  All proceeds benefited 3 worthy charities voted on by Kellogg students earlier in the year.  It was quite the night, whether you came to bid on a luxury stay in Paris or simply dance the night away with some of your best friends.  Also, there was a balloon artist to go along with the Circus theme, and that never hurts.

* Black Management Association’s Gospel Brunch – This event was a February highlight for me.  I had to miss the 2012 BMA Conference itself (we have to do homework sometime, right?), but I was lucky enough to make it to the brunch the following day.  The music was fantastic: Soul4Real, a Northwestern undergrad soul a capella group serenaded us; the sermon was inspirational: Feyisayo Oshinkalu ’12 brought the house down; and Dean Blount pulled up a chair at my brunch table to make the morning’s event complete.

So that’s a glance at some of my “extracurricular” activities in February.  This past weekend, truth be told, I snuck back to NYC to visit some friends for a quick breather before diving into finals.  Spring break’s going to go by in a snap, and then it’s third quarter – potential highlights range from the 2012 Kellogg Africa Business Conference to the requisite third quarter 90’s party.  So stay tuned.
