Shopping With Charles Peirce: From Sign Meaning To Sign Degeneracy in the Marketplace

Abstract

The American philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce helped found the discipline of semiotics, which focuses on the study of signs and meaning. Consumer researchers have applied some of Peirce's frameworks but not others. This chapter introduces readers to the foundations of Peirce's semiotic principles, including to some concepts that have not been widely applied in consumer research.
