Heizer Center Fireside Chat with Jianming Yu and Evan Guo (moderated by Prof Mitchell Peterson)
Description
In class we spend time learning intellectual structures for evaluating investments. These include the mechanics (the spelling and grammar) and more importantly the logic and business strategy that is the foundation of any good investment analysis. We try to expose you to the uncertainty and unpredictability of real world investing with examples and cases in class. Nothing matches the uncertainty of the real world, and that was before the pandemic hit. It is always good to have a plan B, or as out speakers pointed out a pln C (or plan P).
We are going to capitalize on the fact that we are online to invite Mr. Jianming Yu (KSM 2000) and Mr. Evan Guo (KSM 1999) to join us for a fireside chat. Mr. Yu is a co-founder of New Horizon Capital a leading private equity fund focused on investing in China. Mr. Guo is CEO of Zhaopin the preeminent online platform in China (more detailed bios can be found below).
We will discuss how what they learned inside and outside of class at Kellogg has helped them run their respective firms, how they have adapted to the health, economic, and financial shocks to the global economy, and what they see in the near and more distant futures. How are they managing liquidity in the short run, how are the searching for where to spend capital, and how do they think society and thus business will be rewritten over the next several years. Since both Mr. Yu and Mr. Guo have extensive business and investing experience in China, and China maybe several months ahead of Europe and North America in beginning to emerge from the initial health shocks, hearing their firsthand observations should be fascinating.
Please join us for this fireside chat on Tuesday, May 26th from 9-10pm CST. The time was specifically chosen to avoid class conflicts and to accommodate Mr. Yu and Mr. Guo’s schedule. This is a unique opportunity, I have been working on getting them to come to Kellogg for years, and I hope you can join us. This session will not be taped at the request of our speakers.
You will need to register for this event to receive the Zoom invitation. Please register here.
