Al Roth
About the speaker
Alvin Roth is the George Gund Professor of Economics and Business Administration at Harvard University, where he has been teaching since 1998. He received his undergraduate degree in operations research from Columbia University in 1971, and his master and Ph.D degrees in operations research from Stanford University in 1973 and 1974, respectively.
Professor Roth is the author and editor of a large number of books and scientific articles in game theory, economics and experimental economics. He is also unique in his many contributions to actual design problems. These include the National Resident Matching Program; the reorganization of the market for Gastroenterology fellows; school matching systems used in New York City and in the Boston Public Schools; the New England Program for Kidney Exchange and several more.
Professor Roth is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society, a past Guggenheim and Sloan foundations fellow, and a recipient of many honors, awards and prizes for his research and teaching contributions. Prior to his positions at Harvard, he was the Andrew Mellon Professor of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh, and a professor of economics and business administration at the University of Illinois.
