Welcome to Kellogg's Real Estate Lab Information for Students

Course Description

REAL ESTATE LAB-PRACTICUM (offered in Winter quarter) is an experiential learning course that allows Kellogg students the opportunity to be placed in a quarter-long, part-time internship with a local or national real estate firm. Participants will be exposed to the day-to-day working life of the firm, and will assist with their asset selection, due diligence, development, financing or investment efforts. Enrollment in the course is by application only.

Course Requirements

• Meetings will take place with the faculty advisor to discuss the assigned tasks, progress, and feedback.
• Required readings will be completed during the quarter.
• The workload for this course translates to approximately 150 hours during the quarter.

Grading: There are four components to each student’s grade: the instructor’s assessment of the quality of the student’s contribution to the project deliverables (the written report and the oral presentation), participation in class, peer review, and sponsor review.

Faculty Advisor: Denise Akason is the faculty advisor for the Real Estate Lab-Practicum.

Recommended prior course work: It is recommended, but not required, that students have taken Real Estate Finance and Investments (FINC 454) or gain permission from the professor.

Selection Process: Registration is by application only. The faculty advisor and/or the sponsor will make the final team selection.

Student-arranged matches: Sponsor-student matches can, in some cases, be arranged by students. Qualified students may contact Denise Akason by October 1 of the fall quarter (just prior to the relevant winter quarter) if they have a sponsor company that is not already involved in the class, and that has agreed to work with the student as a part of the class.

Sponsors: Please see the Sponsor page.
