David Zhang
David Zhang is a visiting assistant professor of finance at the Kellogg School of Management and an assistant professor of finance at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University. His research focuses on real estate finance and household finance. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics, summa cum laude, from Amherst College. In 2024, he won the prestigious Jensen Prize for his co-authored paper with Paul Willen from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and Kris Gerardi of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Their research was published in the Journal of Financial Economics.

Finance 1 answers managers' and investors' most fundamental finance question: how should a project or an asset be valued? Managers must determine the value of building a factory, entering a new market, or purchasing an entire firm when deciding in which projects to invest. Similarly, individuals must assess the value of financial securities to decide how to invest their wealth. Using a combination of lectures and business cases, Finance 1 teaches the discounted cash flow and multiples methods to value projects or assets. These valuation tools lay the foundation for all work in capital markets and corporate finance.
