Talk title: China’s Role in the New World Order

Abstract:  China dominates and will continue to dominate the global manufacturing output. It is catching up with the United States in scientific research and leads the world in many technological fronts. China's outbound investment brings capacity and technologies to the recipient countries. China's geo-political goals are limited --- they are confined to territory integrity (including the peaceful reunification of Taiwan) and maintaining peace in its surrounding areas. For the next two to three decades, China and the United States will engage in a competition in technological progress. The two countries have to work out rules to govern this competition.

This seminar is sponsored by the Global Poverty Research Lab at Northwestern Kellogg and the Becker Friedman Institute at the University of Chicago
