The San Francisco Immersion Quarter offers a unique opportunity to intern in VC firms or VC portfolio companies, build a network in the Bay Area and take courses all at the same time!
This unprecedented opportunity is ideal for students with strong professional interest in entrepreneurship, technology or venture capital; ambitions to work in a growth-stage entrepreneurial or venture capital firm; and the desire to serve as a proud Kellogg ambassador.
Courses
The San Francisco Winter Quarter is an accredited curricular experience. Students selected for the program will take 3.5 credits of course work.
Required courses (3.5 credits)
- ENTR 980-0: Bay Area Internship and Networking Lab (two credits)
- Internship with a VC firm (prerequisite: FINC 445) or
- Internship with a VC portfolio company
- ENTR 470-0: Launching and Leading Startups* (one credit)
- One of the following finance courses (half credit):
- FINC 980-5: Venture Investing, or
- FINC 982-5: Advanced Topics in Venture Investing (prerequisite: FINC 445)
*Students who have completed ENTR 470 prior to the San Francisco quarter will have the option of enrolling in one remote Evanston class or a class offered by the Law School in San Francisco.
Internship
Students will request interviews with host firms based on a provided list of firms that are interested in working with students through the San Francisco Immersion program. Students will prioritize up to four host firms during July.
- Approximately fifteen VC firms in the Bay area will be hosts for students interested in interning at an VC investing firm
- Approximately fifteen VC portfolio companies in the Bay area will be hosts for students interested in interning in an operating role
Host firms will interview students who prioritize their firm
- Interviews will be conducted during July and early August for round 1 applicants and during October and early November for round 2 applicants
- Students may select their preferred host firm if multiple offers are received
- If a student fails to match, based on coordination with the program director, student may be allowed to source their own firm
Eligibility
Please be aware that there are strict prerequisites for admission into the program.
- Students in the 2Y, 1Y, MMM, Evening & Weekend Program, and JD/MBA (2nd year) who have completed all core classes by winter quarter 2023 are eligible
- You must have completed FINC 431: Finance II or FINC 440: Accelerated Corporate Finance or enrolled in either class by summer 2022
- For consideration for an internship with a VC firm, you must also have completed FINC 445: Entrepreneurial Finance and Venture Capital by the fall of 2022
- You cannot be committed to a Global Exchange in winter 2023
- 3.0 average or above
- 750 bid points will be charged (500 bid points for students who have previously taken ENTR 470)
