Celebrating Black History Month 2024
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the richness of Black culture and achievements throughout American history.
See below for a list of events taking place throughout February as the Kellogg community celebrates and recognizes the movements, individuals and groups who have shaped our nation and continue to make meaningful contributions.
Black Management Association
The Black Management Association (BMA) is a student-led group serving both Full-Time MBA and Evening & Weekend MBA Programs. They’ve partnered with several of the other school’s student groups to bring thoughtful, impactful and fun programming during this year’s Black History Month celebrations.
Feb. 5 — Black History Month Kick Off
BMA welcomes students, faculty and staff to their winter general body meeting on Monday, Feb. 5, which will also act as a kickoff celebration for Black History Month at Kellogg. Visit for registration and more information.
This year, the BMA is celebrating Black History Month with the theme of “Renaissance — The Rebirth of a Resilient Generation.” Events throughout the month will honor inspirational leaders who, through their innovative spirit, are fearlessly redefining established norms to create enduring legacies that have a transformative and uplifting influence on society.
Feb. 6 — Fostering Healthy Masculinities for Conscious Leadership
BMA and the Hispanic Management Association, along with the Office of Student Life, are partnering to host a workshop exploring healthy masculinit(ies) in the context of business leadership and personal development. Visit Campus Groups for more information.
Feb. 7 — Elementary School Volunteer Day
Join BMA and Kellogg Cares for a meaningful volunteer event at a local elementary school. Volunteers will guide students through enriching Black History Month activities, carefully crafted by teachers to have a lasting impact on students from kindergarten to 5th grade. This presents a wonderful opportunity to foster growth, build connections and celebrate unity within our community. Feb. 10 — Smile Revival: BLACK by Popular Demand at Second City Comedy Club
Come laugh with BMA at Second City as we channel the Harlem Renaissance. Vaudeville, a popular form of entertainment during the Harlem Renaissance that helped Black performers break down barriers in the entertainment industry and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the era. Feb. 21 — Heated: “Paris is Burning” A Documentary Watch Party
Join BMA and HMA along with P@K and KLATAM for a screening of the iconic documentary “Paris is Burning," exploring vibrant ballroom culture and delving into themes of identity, community and self-expression. Beyond the captivating ballroom scene, this documentary seamlessly navigates the intersections of race, class, gender and sexuality in America. Visit Campus Groups to reserve your seat today.
Feb. 26 — BMA Week
Starting Monday, Feb. 26, it’s BMA Week at Kellogg, when the student-run group hosts a variety of fun and engaging events for the entire school community. Plans this year include a speaker series, social outings, the group’s annual Block Party and more. Check Campus Groups throughout the month for the latest event details.
Feb. 29 — Beyond their years: The Incredible Legacies of Herb Carnegie and Buck O’Neil
BMA, the Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago and the Sports Business Club are hosting a screening of the award-winning documentary “Beyond Their Years: The Incredible Legacies of Herb Carnegie and Buck O’Neil” on Thursday, Feb. 29.
The documentary unfolds the compelling narrative of Herb Carnegie and Buck O’Neil, athletes who faced racial barriers in their pursuit of playing at the major league level in hockey and baseball. Despite adversity, they channeled their energies into overcoming injustice. An enlightening dialogue on their stories will follow the screening. The Kellogg Black and African American Network (KBAN)
KBAN is an employee resource group for staff at Kellogg. KBAN promotes and celebrates an engaged, visible and empowered community for Blacks/African Americans and Kellogg as a whole.
