Does your business model look to the future or just defend the past?, Harvard Business Review (hbr.org)

Abstract

The article introduces a new concept, the "Transitional Business Platform" or transitional business model. Transitional models intentionally go to market with an early business concept that anticipates likely future changes, setting the company up to remain ahead as the marketplace changes. The article uses examples from Netflix, UBER, Tesla and Charles Schwab. Current technology leaders are the most active in this respect. The article explores the concept and suggests how incumbents (like Schwab) can apply this model, as well.
