The problem is too much money is used by public companies in the U.S. and the EU to lobby local, state and federal legislators and administrators to change or support laws that supposedly help the company. These amounts are seldom reported to the shareholders and thus the article is a call for greater transparency. In addition, lobbying also takes place through professional organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce which may not be in the best interest of society.
