After the Gold Rush: Expansive and the Flexible Office Space Market in 2021

Abstract

Bill Bennett, CEO of flexible office space provider Expansive, was considering a potential expansion opportunity for his company. In downtown Chicago, a former WeWork location had become available for a property management arrangement after the company's failed IPO in 2019. Bennett would have to decide soon whether to bid for the location and continue his expansion in the Chicago market; he had heard that Industrious, one of his competitors, was also interested in the property. Bids were due by the end of this week, and Bennett had to determine whether the building fit into Expansive's aggressive growth strategy and, if so, what a fair structure might look like.
