Language Support for International Student and Scholars
English Language Program - Many graduate students at Northwestern University are international students whose native language is not English. There are a wide variety of English Language Programs and services available at Northwestern to assist in supporting these scholars. 

English language support services are provided year-round and include group classes, one-on-one instruction, and supported use of online software. For information about who to contact or the services provided, refer to the English Language Program website. 

Community Council for International Students (CCIS) - CCIS is an all-volunteer group dedicated to making Northwestern University international students feel welcome in the country and at the University.

CCIS offers a variety of programs including Conversation Partners for Students. Students practice and improve English skills by meeting regularly to discuss topics of shared interest.

 

Writing Assistance

NU Write – Northwestern has consolidated many resources on writing through NU Write. This is a comprehensive web site for anyone who wants help with core writing skills, along with models and advice about writing for specific purposes. NU Write has customized their resources for the various writing communities on campus, such as Social Science or more specifically Writing in Economics and Writing in Psychology.

The Writing Place – Northwestern's center for writing consultations. A Writing Place consultant can help you at any stage of the writing process, from talking about ideas to developing a plan, to revising and editing a draft. Writing Place consultants are trained to analyze your writing and engage you in a conversation to help you plan and revise your writing.

Dissertation Editors –  Kellogg's Research Support team has a list of dissertation editors who have worked with Kellogg doctoral students. The students are responsible for this fee themselves or could request funding from their dissertation advisor or department. Contact the Research Support team to learn more.

Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching

The Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching provides doctoral students with a way to analyze and think critically about their teaching style and methods. The Center will provide meaningful feedback and constructive support for students to improve their teaching techniques.
