Kellogg team wins second place at 2015 BAHM competition

What are the most promising innovations in the delivery of healthcare services?

This is the question that student teams had to answer at the Business School Alliance for Health Management (BAHM) case competition on April 18, 2015, at the University of Colorado Denver. Eleven business schools from across the country participated in the competition, including HBS, Wharton, Haas, Yale and Kellogg.

All teams presented about an innovative change, domestic or global, that has impacted ways consumers purchase and/or use health care services in the last 10 years. Senior leaders across the healthcare industry judged the competition, including Jandel Allen-Davis, Vice President at Kaiser Permanente, Jennifer Alderfer, President and CEO at North Suburban Medical Center, Margaret Sabin, President and CEO at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services and Kendall Qualls, Vice President at Medtronic.

The Kellogg team, comprised of Sami Greenberg and Maggie Ryan, took 2nd place. They discussed the importance of telemedicine, and why it should be extended to physical therapy for specific conditions that can be solely treated through therapeutic exercise. They proposed a tele-rehabilitation business venture that would connect patients with licensed physical therapists over an online HIPAA-compliant video platform. Through interviews, surveys, focus groups and review of academic research articles, they showed the consumer demand for online physical therapy, and why this venture was feasible and important to the healthcare industry. Their case was based on Sami’s business, Move Health (www.move-health.com). Given their thorough analysis and passion, they received positive feedback from the judges and placed amongst the top teams.
