Messaging That Matters: Strategic Communication for Nonprofit Leaders

A Leadership Approach to Communication Strategy

In today’s complex nonprofit landscape, effective communication is not just a skill—it’s a leadership imperative. This immersive program equips nonprofit leaders with the tools, frameworks, and mindset necessary to drive mission-focused communication that inspires action and builds trust. Participants will learn to apply stakeholder mapping techniques to identify, prioritize, and meaningfully engage key audiences, and to develop a unified messaging strategy that aligns communications across their organization. By uncovering the components of compelling communication, and examining the root causes of communication breakdown, leaders will deepen their self-awareness and develop flexibility as communicators that are able to adapt to diverse stakeholder needs and organizational dynamics.

Grounded in real world applications, this program goes beyond theory to teach participants how to present complex ideas and data-driven insights with clarity, confidence, and influence. Leaders will gain practical techniques for structuring persuasive narratives, applying principles of visual design, and communicating with precision to internal teams, boards, funders, and community stakeholders. Through interactive sessions with Kellogg faculty, seasoned nonprofit experts and peers, participants will emerge with a strategic communication toolkit to effectively champion their organization’s mission.
