Leadership lessons from Renaissance Florence for the age of AI

Leadership lessons from Renaissance Florence for the age of AI

The Medici were entrepreneurial bankers whose leadership built a network of allies, guilds and patrons that turned a mid-sized Tuscan city into the engine of the modern world. Leading the Next Renaissance puts you inside the birthplace of innovation, led by Kellogg professors Leslie DeChurch and Noshir Contractor – two of the field's leading scholars of teams and networks.

Your week in Italy, where the bold thinking of the past meets the complexity of modern business, will look like this:

  • Mornings are cappuccino-fueled workshops at the British Institute on the Arno.
  • Afternoons are the city itself: the cupola, the Opera del Duomo, the Medici palazzo, the Uffizi.
  • Twice you’ll head into the countryside with your fellow participants: to La Foce, the estate Iris Origo built from bare clay in the Val d'Orcia and led through a war, and to the cellars of Donatella Cinelli Colombini, who founded Italy's first winery run entirely by women and taught the country how to sell wine by creating new networks.
  • Spend a day inside Siena, where a mystic who became a saint and a horse race that has run for centuries turn out to teach the same leadership lessons.

Whether it's your first trip to Florence or your fifth, you'll leave with a global network of peers, a sharper sense of how to build and hold a team together under pressure, and a way of thinking about human-AI collaboration that will help you lead the next modern Renaissance.
