The Internet of Things (IoT), also called the “Internet of Everything,” has been described as the catalyst for the fourth industrial revolution. It is one of the most disruptive forces in business today. Although many companies have started investing in IoT, the lines defining its potential for value creation are still unclear. This session will examine risks and opportunities in this market, and also explore three different players in the context of digital disruption versus digital transformation.

Mohanbir Sawhney is a globally recognized scholar, teacher, consultant and speaker in business innovation, technology marketing and new media. His research and teaching currently focuses on advanced digital marketing, engagement marketing, business innovation and enterprise analytics. He has pioneered concepts like the Innovation Radar, e-Hubs, Innomediation and the Sentient Enterprise. Professor Sawhney serves on the board of directors at Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bahwan Cybertek. He is a fellow of the World Economic Forum, a fellow of the Institute for Study of Business Markets (ISBM) and a member of the advisory board of the Chicago Innovation Awards.

Joe Bonefas '15 Vice President Business Technology / Discover Financial Services

Joe Bonefas currently serves as a Vice President in the Business Technology group at Discover Financial Services, where he is responsible for emerging technology solutions and business architecture. Since joining Discover in 1991, Bonefas has held a number of key roles, including leading the technology teams that created the Discover Network Switch, developing the co-brand card market and creating Discover's network alliance model. Bonefas has been published in the Journal of Payments Strategy and Systems and has won numerous awards for his disruptive solutions, such as the Walmart Dual Card and China Union Pay network alliance. He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Northern Illinois University.

As Global Vice President of the Digital Transformation Group at Cisco, Sandy Hogan is responsible for helping customers define and deliver new digital businesses through go-to-market models and engagement methodologies. She has driven transformational initiatives across various sales, operations and marketing roles during her 14 years with the company, including leading Cisco’s Business Transformation team. Before joining Cisco, Hogan had increasing leadership responsibility at two successive start-ups. She began her career at Baxter Healthcare, where she led complex sales organizations and created new sales models.

Grady and his team operate with an agile structure developing new product ideas, then testing and learning from those ideas to strengthen interactions with consumers via the connected car experience.

Davie Sweis Vice President – Digital and Web Business, Robert Bosch, LLC

Davie Sweis is Vice President of the Global Digital and Web Business unit at Robert Bosch Corporation. After holding various positions within the corporate sector of IT, Sweis became the head of Bosch's newly formed division in 2013. This unit has allowed Bosch to continue being at the forefront of development and the IT landscape by advancing topics such as IoT, Mobility, Cloud and API Management. Prior to joining Bosch, Sweis had a successful career as an IT Consultant for a number of Chicago-based consulting firms.
