David Besanko, strategy expert, named senior associate dean for planning

New position adds depth to Office of the Dean; move one of several in restructuring

Longtime Kellogg School faculty member David Besanko has been named senior associate dean for academic affairs: planning and external relations. The new position is part of a major restructuring in the Office of the Dean.

Besanko, the Alvin J. Huss Distinguished Professor of Management and Strategy, previously served as senior associate dean for curriculum and teaching from 2001 to 2003. His new role brings his leadership back to the school's administration, where he will oversee the Departments of Alumni Relations and Development, the Career Management Center and the Communications and Media Relations Department.

In the Office of the Dean, he joins Dean Dipak C. Jain and colleagues Sunil Chopra, the IBM Distinguished Professor of Operations Management and Information Systems, and Kathleen Hagerty, the First Chicago Distinguished Professor of Finance. Both Chopra and Hagerty continue their roles as senior associate deans for academic affairs, with Chopra overseeing curriculum and teaching and Hagerty overseeing faculty and research. Existing responsibilities for each will expand: Chopra now also manages student affairs across all programs, as well as the Full-Time MBA Program's admissions office; Hagerty now oversees the doctoral program and Kellogg Information Systems.

Other changes include those in the Office of Student Affairs. Fran Langewisch is now assistant dean of academic affairs and student life. The school has added a new director of registration and student records, Rebecca Parker. Michele Rogers, meanwhile, holds a new role as assistant dean for integrated programs and experiential learning, responsible for interacting with other schools at Northwestern University on joint programs such as the JD-MBA and Master of Management and Manufacturing.

In addition, Carole Cahill has been named associate dean: facilities and human resources, while Theresa Parker is now associate dean: finance and budget planning.

The restructuring is designed to ensure the Kellogg School's day-to-day operations remain under superb management, allowing Dean Jain to focus on several major upcoming strategic initiatives.
