Of course, plans change and new opportunities come up. So, Course Planning is flexible. You can make changes to your list of tagged courses, to your path and your next-term schedule any time you like.
Course Planning is built to work on your laptop and most mobile devices, including IPads and Android tablets.
We hope you find Course Planning helpful as you plan how to spend the time you have here at Kellogg.
Kellogg’s Course Planning is a new tool we’re offering to help you find the courses you want to take and plan when you might take them during your time at Kellogg. It brings together many of the different resources students have used in the past to accomplish these tasks.
In Course Planning, the process is broken down into 3 steps:
This process is designed for your personal planning purposes; tagging a course and putting it on a path does not control your final enrollment decisions (which are made and executed in the Kellogg Bidding and Registration System). So, feel free to come back and make changes as many times as you like.
When you first log in to Course Planning, you are taken to the Dashboard. From the Dashboard, click the Tag Courses link in the header. This takes you to the Tag Courses screen.
On the Tag Course screen in Course Planning, you can browse the complete list of courses offered at Kellogg. To help you narrow down the list, you can filter the course list, either on properties of the courses themselves or on the schedule of sections being offered. This allows you to find courses by criteria such as name, terms when it’s being offered, campus, instructor, day of the week, start time or keyword. And, since Course Planning knows who you are, you can also choose to hide courses that you’ve already taken.
As you identify courses you would like to take, click the tag icon for that course.
It will change to be shaded purple, letting you know that it has been added to your list of tagged courses.
If you change your mind, click it again and it will be removed from your list.You can see your complete list of tagged courses by clicking the “Tagged Courses” icon in the header.
Your list of Tagged courses is also displayed on your Dashboard.
After you have created a shortlist of courses, put the courses you’ve tagged into specific terms when you think you might try to take them. This is called Planning Your Path.
Click the “Plan Path” link in the header. This takes you to the Path Builder screen.
The Path Builder in Course Planning shows you your list of tagged courses on the left, and has a Scratch Pad and Your Path in the middle. When you click the document icon next to a course in your Tagged Courses list, the course will appear on the Scratch Pad in the terms when it is scheduled to be offered. Simply click the course name in the term in the Scratch Pad when you think you might try to take it, and it will drop down into that term on your path.
If you change your mind, simply click the course in your Path, and Course Planning will take it off your path.
Note, if the registrar hasn’t yet set up the schedule for a term, that term is shaded. You can still put courses in that term on your path, but be aware that the course may or may not be offered in that term when the registrar sets up the schedule for the term. Your Path is displayed on the Dashboard, for quick reference.
Like tagging a course, putting a course on your path doesn’t obligate you to take the course; it is just for your personal planning purposes.
Over time, as your complete courses, Course Planning will update your path to reflect what you really took in each term. If you don’t take a course in the term where you placed it in your path, no problem; Course Planning will replace the courses in that term with the courses that you do take, and – if you want - you are free to place the courses you didn’t take into other terms on your path.
Each term, use Course Planning to set up a hypothetical schedule for the next term.
Click the “Set Schedule” link in the header. This takes you to the Schedule Builder screen.
The Schedule Builder lists your path on the left. Expand the group for the next Term to see the courses you placed on that term in your path. When you click the “Show Section” icon next to a course in the next term on your Path list, the sections for that course will appear in the sections list. For each section, Course Planning shows when and where each section is being held, who is teaching it and the TCE course overall and instructor overall data points, so you can find the sections that work best for you.
If you want to see a section on the calendar, click the “Add to Calendar” button. To remove the section from your calendar, simply click the button again. Try different combinations of sections, using the calendar to identify any potential schedule conflicts, until you have a hypothetical schedule you like.
NEW FEATURE! On the Schedule Builder screen, you now have the option of searching the Course Schedule to quickly add a course to your hypothetical next-term schedule.
Your hypothetical next-term schedule is also displayed on your Dashboard.
Putting a course on your schedule in Course Planning doesn’t register you for that course. However, once you have a schedule that you like, you can use it as a reference when it’s time to place bids in the bidding system.
