1/24/2012 - With an impressive showing against the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Kellogg took three of the four top positions in the 2012 JP Morgan M&A Challenge.

Kellogg now claims a cumulative seven of the top eight places in the finance case competition over the past two years. The event, held each January, pits eight teams from each school against each other in two brackets. Kellogg took first and second place in one division and second place in the other. The first-place teams received $1,000 prizes, and the second-place team received $500.

Students were provided with an M&A scenario to be analyzed and presented within 24 hours. This year’s simulated case was based on the AGL Resources acquisition of Nicor Inc.

The students were given 24 hours to formulate a 15-minute presentation, which they followed up with a five-minute Q&A. “The judges did an amazing job simulating a real-life board and asking all the questions we will eventually need to be prepared to answer,” said first-place team captain Ananya Das ’13.

Each Kellogg team consisted of six students from the Investment Banking and Capital Markets (ICBM) group.

“This is a tremendous achievement for our school and a matter of extraordinary pride,” IBCM group officer Uzair Khan ’12 said. “Practitioners at one of the finest financial firms in the country (J.P. Morgan) judged the competition and they resoundingly said that Kellogg was extremely well prepared.”
