2016 International Conference on Computational Social Science

This 2nd Annual International Conference on Computational Social Science is an interdisciplinary event designed to engage a broad community of researchers - academics, industry experts, open data activists, government agency workers, and think tank analysts – dedicated to advancing social science knowledge through computational methods.  This event affords the opportunity to meet and discuss works in which social systems and dynamics are investigated in a quantitative way through large datasets that are either mined from various sources (e.g. social media, communication systems) or created via controlled experiments or computational modeling.

The 2nd IC2S2 is the merging of two successful conferences in 2015, both of which live streamed their content.

The 15-17 May 2015 Computational Social Science Summit hosted by the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, IL USA.  CSSS15 featured:
  • Over 200 international participants 
  • An innovative format featuring skills workshops, a datathon, two days of panels as well as vendor booths and poster sessions
  • Keynotes from luminaries such as Katy Börner, Moran Cerf, David Ferrucci, Sandra Gonazales-Bailon and Michael Macy
  • Industry, government, not-for-profit, and academic sponsors:  Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Facebook, Kellogg School of Management, the National Science Foundation and Syndio

The 8-11 June 2015 International Conference on Computational Social Science hosted by Aalto University School of Science Helsinki Finland.  The inaugural IC2S2 featured:
  • Over 400 participants spanning 4 continents
  • ~500 abstracts submitted
  • Publication of conference proceedings, “Advances in Data-Driven Computational Social Science”, in the peer-reviewed, open access journal EPJ Data Science
  • Keynotes from luminaries including Lada Adamic, Sinan Aral, Albert Laszlo Barabasi, Nicholas Christakis, Robin Dunbar, Andreas Flache, Dirk Helbing, Matthew Jackson, Jure Leskovec, Michael Macy, Alex Pentland, Alessandro Vespignani, and Duncan Watts
  • Featured panelists including: Kathryn Coronges, Ivica Cubic, Patrick Goymer, Barbara Jasny
