1995

As usual, the class of '95 has been busy. This update stretches back awhile, so get ready to catch up on a bunch of news.

Elyse Spector Kalmans and husband Lewis happily announce the arrival of their third daughter, Talia Elizabeth. Talia, born May 31, joins sisters, Aerin, 4, and Kendall, 3. Elyse writes: "We live in Bellaire, Texas, around the corner from classmate Paul Posoli, and our children played on the same soccer team last fall. Who would have thought that we'd each have three children? I'm still enjoying running my own PR firm (two years in July). I'm very busy, but still have enough flexibility to attend dance recitals and take the girls to swimming lessons."

Philip Yau checked in with the following update: "In typical form, I belatedly wanted to share with our classmates that I married Cynthia Kop (University of Hawaii; Duke Fuqua MBA) in August 2003 in Honolulu, where a plethora of ourclassmates joined us to celebrate our luau/wedding: Mark Medema, Darrin Gee, John Martin, George Bischof '94 and Kerry O'Rourke, Paul Machle '94, Bill Kaufmann '96, Laura Kuo '96, Ben Chou and Beto Guarjardo. We have since moved from San Francisco to Manhattan, where we are now reconnected with many other classmates."

Liam O'Neil and his wife, Jennifer TMP '00, had a beautiful baby boy Oct. 27. Conor Michael O'Neil was 22 inches long and tipped the scales at8 pounds, 11 ounces.

Alex Woodthorpe moved to Tokyo with Kerilee and met up last fall with David Fry in Hong Kong. Alex is still with Merrill Lynch, running the equity capital markets business. He also met up with Jun Takashina and would be very happy to catch up with any other alumni in town. He can be reached at 813.3213.8514.

For all of you race car fans, you saw a note earlier this year from Claudio Ludovisi. He writesthat hisfirst real filmed project at WarnerBros.opened this spring. It's called"NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience."Claudio writes that he got to take the Petty Driving Experience school and drove one of the race cars around the track in Fontana, Calif., at 160 mph.He writes: "I was walking on Cloud Nine for a week after that. Now I have moved to Warner Independent Films, Warner Bros.' independent feature division, in production and development. I am focusing on Latin cinema: stories about Latin America and Latinos in the United States. I'm looking for smart, sophisticated, Latin-themed stories for grown-ups --- no family, sports, teen, Westerns or musicals. In particular, I'm looking for stories thatoffer a fresh perspective beyondstereotypes. If anyone has any suggestions, please contact me at claudio.ludovisi@warnerbros.com."

Frank Wettercamp checks in with the following: "I have just been transferred to the beautiful town of Munich to run PwC's business recovery practice. We are looking for a house. The family will be moving here within the next few months. Also, if any of you are coming to Munich, please let us know. I can be reached on my cell: 011.49.175.293.7295, or at my office: 011.49.89.5790.6460."

Jane Hunter is keeping busy as a working mom and says: "Hope that you guys are doing well. We are still in London and really enjoying it. We bought a house about two years ago, so we have decided to stay put for the foreseeable future. We have two kids now: Hugh, 3, started school this fall and is fluent in both American and English. The accent is a bizarre and highly entertaining combination of the two. Annabel is 1 1/2 and definitely thinks her brother hung the moon. Becker, our dog, whom I am sure you probably remember, is 13 and wishes the two siblings would just go away. I am still with Diageo and am working as the global marketing director on J&B Whisky. Our largest markets are in southern Europe and South Africa, so I spend a fair amount of time traveling and am still working to get the balance right. Nicole Timan O'Rourke and her husband, Mark, just had a baby girl named Audrey; Charlotte Cudlip Bartol had a little girl named Whitney in May, and I am very honored to be her godmother, along with Linda Plate Guy."

In the next email, I got the specifics from Nicole: "Mark and I were proud to welcome our daughter, Audrey Agnes O'Rourke, on Sept. 2. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long. She's a beautiful girl, already a sleeping champ, going six hours at night at less than two weeks old. (God bless her!)

Shortly before press time, Jules Veloria reported the arrival of Julianne Claire Veloria and Kieran Robert Veloria, who made their entrance on Sept. 27, weighing nearly 6 pounds each. Jules and Ruth have been busy with both family and work. Jules writes: "We moved from San Francisco to lovely Phoenix this spring.Ruth is still working at Charles Schwab. But after years of being a consultant, she has finally taken on an operational role. She's the VP of client services, running the main call center in Phoenix. I'm keeping busy as the VP of sales and marketing for RedSeven Computer, a local computer manufacturing/services company in the Phoenix area. Although we have our hands full with the twins, we welcome a visit from fellow Kelloggians who happen to be in the area."

Pam and Jon Passman welcomed their daughter, Eve Siegel Passman, on Feb. 22. Jon says big brothers Abe, 5, and Jordan, 4, were very excited to have a baby sister and they continue to dote on her.Recently the Passmans visited David Grams '94, his wife, Shari, daughter G. and son Harry at their cabin in northern Wisconsin.Jon says, "The kids and parents had a great timeswimming, boating and playing at the beach."

Patrick Meynial reports that Christian Schneider has moved from Chicago to the East Coast. Last Christmas, Patrickran into Klaus Burger on the Santiago-Lima flight. "Klaus told me he was back into family business in Lima and seems to be doing well," Patrick says. Healso sees Rachel and Alejandro Daireaux from time to time, as well as the local, expanding Kellogg alumni community in Santiago.

Cynthia Brumbach left the Mouse House in Orlando: "In November 2002, I purchased a store here. After taking a year off, it was great to be back at work and using my Kellogg experience as my own boss. Business has been great, and we are in the process of launching our e-commerce site and finalizing expansion plans for new locations and possible franchises. Stores are opening in Tampa andAtlanta. Please visit our Web site at www.themonogrammerchant.com. Would love to see anyone coming to Orlando."

Rebecca Swarr got married, according to her brief email. (C'mon, Rebecca, we want details.)

Claire Celeste was in Atlanta this summer during the week that the Bergs headed to a beach vacation. I missed seeing her after a gap of nearly 10 years. Damn.

Kelly Adams has been globetrotting: "I took a year off from the business world and lived in Madrid. I traveled, learned Spanish and enjoyed the Spanish way of life. I also went to Geraldo Marinas' wedding in September 2002 and caught up with many of our LAHIMA classmates. As of August, I'm back to work in marketing, this time at a telecom startup."

More news from Spain, as Nicole Neuefeind writes: "Iam still living in Barcelona, but have left consulting to become a free-lance photographer. I am enjoying doing something more creative and working on a lot of projects, including commercial photographyandpersonal work, that are keeping me quite busy."

Lisa Morrell says she joined the mommy club: "My daughter, Krista Marie Morrell, was born on Nov. 11 at 3:30 a.m. --- a night person like her mom. Must have been all those late nights at The Keg in her genes. She is a sweet, low-maintenance baby. Krista wants to thank her Kellogg '95 aunties for the wonderful baby showers. The 'Born Free' group (all Kellogg '95) reunited for a phone shower: Elizabeth Baron Daliere, Linda Lin Pirrotta, Diane Kitayama Sankey, Betsy Berns Korn, Julie Smith Wheelan, Christine Langer Dow and Julie Simon Stangl. In Chicago, Sheila Samii Matuscak, Cheri Demong Hubbard and Karen Hohenstein held a beautiful shower at Karen's penthouse condo. Kate Kustermann '94, Kristi Pauley and Alisa Gilhooley were there too. We are having fun doing things like mother-baby yoga and play groups."

Dodie Sutro Crawford is also dealing with diapers and little feet walking around her house: "Our big news is that Catherine 'Katie' Amelia Crawford was born April 5. She is a healthy, happy baby girl. We also had a great Labor Day weekend at Suzy Ivelich and Jack Loh's wedding. We had great visits with Cathy Lindeman Gunsbury and Curt, Carla Newmeyer and Paul (I think that is his name) Cooper and Dean Chan.

James Pitts and I get to have lunch occasionally since he is still living in Atlanta. He says: "My mom lives with us and is going strong at 83.My in-laws moved from Vermont and live about 2 miles away, so Jake, 5, and Erik, 2, get to see their grandparents almost every day.I was promoted last year to VP at Jones Lang LaSalle in tenant representation. Let me know if you have any real estate needs nationwide.I am completely hooked on golf and have officially retired from basketball. Ken Ewell and Scott Gill can relax now. I am enjoying my boys immensely. AnneMarie and I got away for a week in Jamaica for the first time since our honeymoon.Just what the doctor ordered.Al Thompson had another little girl; now he is completely outnumbered in his home by females. Give me a shout if you are ever in Atlanta: jpittsiii@charter.net."

Jeff Hyman and his wife, Rachel '96, welcomed their first child, Maxwell Jordan Hyman, on Aug.1. Jeff writes: "He weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and is already on the advance wait list at Kellogg. Second, we've moved to Chicago, where I have joined Dyson as vice president of marketing (www.dyson.com). New email is jeff.hyman@dyson.com. We look forward to catching up with our Chicago friends."

John Martin left his firm and is taking a few months off before starting up the next BIG thing. The cool thing is that he might be joining me at the North Highland Co., but he will be living in New York, while I still live in Decatur, Ga. (It's near Atlanta, but better.)

Lucia Escobar checks in with news of her family: "Edwin is now dean of the school of engineering at Universidad Rafael Landívar and loves the experience of going back to academics. He has drawn from his experience at Kellogg, as well as from the School of Engineering at Northwestern, to implement big changes in URL. I am still multitasking at several jobs to have freedom of schedule. I am now on the regional board of directors of Banco Cuscatlán, which bought the operations of Lloyds TSB in Central America in December 2003 and is now the second regional bank in Central America."

Charlotte Cudlip is apparently doing well and is jumping back into the work force. She writes: "After not working for a few years, I decided it was time to put my mind back to work andstarted an interior decorating business in July. Although I am only doing it part time, I am having a great time helping others with their decorating challenges. I really like that I can do this and still be a mostly full-time mother to my son, Henry, who turns 3 in November. This spring Henry got a little sister with the arrival of Whitney Farrar Bartol, who was born May 25. Her two godmothers are Kellogg classmates Linda Plate Guy and Jane Hunter Walsh.Over the last few months I have caught up in person with fellow classmates Jane, Linda, Nicole Timan O'Rourke, Frank Hardartand John and Laura Mattson."

Dave Gordon is a daddy. He says: "On Nov. 10, 2003, Tania, Callie and I welcomed Jonathan (Jack) into our family. He was 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and everyone is doing great. With a new baby in the house, won't be skiing for a while."

Kelley Rich is probably one of the few '95 grads to be with her original post-Kellogg firm. I still remember how they emphasized their family benefits during CIM week. Kelley must have been listening, since she now has five people under her roof. "Hope all is well," she writes. "No new news from the Rich household. I'm still at SCJ and Kris is still working for Motorola. The kids are growing up fast. Nathan is 7, Haley is 4 and Nolan is 3."

Yuri Salnikoff says things have gotten busy in their house: "Vicki and I now have a full-size team with Nicholas, 6, Alexander, 4, and Katherine, 1 1/2. Our weekends are full of hockey games and fun adventures in NYC. Vicki's art consulting business is going strong, and I was recently promoted to VP, managing partner, of the New York Office of Agency.com. The great news is that we're actually seeing growth for the first time in years. Give me a shout if you're in NY."

Travis Hurst reports unusual weather from the land of George Bush: "We had a couple of inches of snow in Austin overnight. Imagine our surprise and joy when we looked out on a blanket of pristine white powder. I captured the moment on my newfound love, the Kodak EasyShare digital camera. Check out our photos at www.travisandrachel.com."

Brent Harrison has started a cool new gig: "I recently launched my own consultancy, SmokeJumper Strategy, after many tours of duty with Netscape, AOL and Apple in Silicon Valley. The firm provides strategy, marketing and product innovation services to software and Internet companies. For more details, go to SmokeJumperStrategy.com."

Simon Rankin is a daddy. Repeat---Simon Rankin is a daddy. No, really, I mean it. Yep, that Simon that we knew in school, he's now a daddy. He moved to London and got married and now he's a daddy. Check out the picture if you don't believe me. Olivia arrived earlier this year, and according to a note I got from Simon he mainly has "poo-duty," but helps out whenever he can. By the way, the new daddy is still with Morgan Stanley.

Dan Loflin's company got acquired by Big Blue, so he now has an IBM email. He left McKinsey in 2000 to help start a Trigo Technologies in the Bay Area. He is now with the WebSphere division of the IBM Software Group and lives in San Francisco.

Martha Golub is still in Boston and says she has "recently returned to RSA Security, where I do market development work following the birth of my second child, Avery Ruth, on June 5."

Jackie Harris married Robert J. Hochberg in Palm Beach, Fla. "We live in NYC and we have a son, Harrison Maxwell Hochberg, who turned 1 in September," Jackie writes.

Mark Lamps sent a simple little understated message that could come only from a former Kellogg student. It said: "Rick, if you are still doing the Kellogg notes, we are moving to Qingdao, China, at the end of June. Thanks, Lamps, vice president and general manager, Pentair Enclosures China." I don't know about you, but the simplicity of this note kind of blew me away when I read it in May.

According to Heather Raker, there are more Rakers in the world: "Todd (Raker) and I had our third (!) boy on Feb. 23. His name is Christopher, and he joins big brothers Brett and Cameron. Rumor has it that the mother of three boys automatically goes to heaven, so I'm all set now. But what about the father? We are all doing well. Christopher is a GREAT baby and his big brothers (and parents) adore him. In other news, Todd left Credit Suisse First Boston and joined Deutsche Bank in March. He is still an equity analyst covering software companies. But now he commutes (when in town) to Greenwich, Conn., which is great for family life."

Carter Griffin sent a note that his firm moved locations and he is now in Bethesda, Md., with Brivo. By the way, he's the CEO.

Mark T. Brown writes to say: "In addition to directing all logistics operations for Princess Cruises, I have assumed responsibility for logistics support of the Cunard Line as well."

Alex Daireaux has finally changed business cards after a seven-year itch: "I wanted to share with you that after seven years in investment banking, I decided to make a move and accepted an offer to become CFO of SA San Miguel, Argentina's leading lemon-producing company and largest exporter in the world. Rachel is doing great andour fourkids keep growing: Sofia, 12, Maria, 10,Alejo, 8, and Simon, 5. We are making plans for next year's reunion and hope to see you there. Queria comentarles que despues de siete años en MBA Banco de Inversiones, he decidido hacer un cambio y aceptar una propuesta de S.A. San Miguel para ocupar la posicion de CFO, como responsable de las areas de administracion, finanzas y control. San Miguel es la empresa citricola lider de Argentina y la mayor exportadora de limones en el mundo, y esta vinculada con los accionistas de MBA."

More news from theother shores asTodd Reichmannsends this posting(Hey, Todd, your Bad Attitude Buddy, Simon Rankin, is now adaddy.): "I got married on Feb. 7 to Leanne Paton in Melbourne, Australia. Tim Urquhart represented the Kellogg alumni contingent, while David Mathias and Dan Hillenbrand were there in spirit. After our honeymoon in Queensland, we packed up and moved to Singapore, where I have taken up a new role at Citibank as director of personal lending, retail banking Asia Pacific. You can reach me at toddreichmann@yahoo.com.sg. Look us up if you're in Singapore."

Per Torgersen and Ted Pfeiffer are now the proud fathers of twin girls. On July 12, they were joined by Nina Torgersen Pfeiffer (5 pounds, 12 ounces, 19 inches) and Sydney Torgersen Pfeiffer (6 pounds, 1 ounce, 19 inches). I haven't gotten any follow-up emails, so I'm guessing they are kind of busy.

Art Muldoon has landed in NYC with Avenue A/Razorfish.

In the last Kellogg World, you read that Monisha Shahani got married. Now she's changing jobs: "Just wanted to let you know that I (finally) decided on my next career move. I resigned from McKinsey earlier this year after more than four years working there. After taking some time off, I accepted an offer from The Cambridge Group (TCG) in Chicago. TCG is a smallish 'demand strategy' consulting firm. It has a lot of terrific people, a huge focus on lifestyle and offers a great fit with the kind of work that excites me. I started at TCG this fall and think I'm really going to like it."

Peter Brumme is with Sapient and moved west. He added some more changes to his life as well: "Just as we were getting settled in our new home in the Bay Area, this week we were blessed with a welcome surprise. Ian Erich Brumme was born Aug. 30, five weeks earlier than anticipated. As many of you know, this has been a long and difficult journey for all of us. Both Kathy and I are excited that Ian is finally here. For those of you who don't know, Ian is California-born. Kathy took a job with HP in Palo Alto this summer in an effort to reduce travel and spend more time at home."

And finally, a couple quick notes from your rep. Next spring is our 10-year reunion. Save the dates --- it starts Friday, April 29. We had a huge turnout for our five-year, but I bet we could get the largest percentage of alumni returning ever for a reunion weekend. Hey, Kellogg '95, don't you agree that we could break the alumni attendance records for reunion?

On the home front, Ben is now in sixth grade. He and his brother, Sam (second grade), played more than 20 different sports over the course of the summer. We had some busy weekends and got into a swim team culture for the first time. Ann continues to substitute teach at our elementary school, which is eight doors away. I was president of the PTA last year, and they tried to close down our school during my tenure. It was a busy spring andwe saved the school, but it led me to miss a few Kellogg World deadlines. Sorry, everybody. I know you like the updates. Keep sending the notes, and I'll be glad to hand this off to someone else at the reunion. After 10 years (along with Brent Harrison as the class rep) I'm ready to turn the Word of Mouse into a listserv. Let me know if you are interested in taking over the reins. Rick Berg (rberg@northhighland.com).
