Research Computing >> Software >> Shareware & freeware

There is a significant number of software packages available as shareware or freeware.

"Shareware" is "try-before-you-buy" software, which can be downloaded and installed. The price is usually very low. A good example is WinZip. Often, paying for the license gives access to enhanced functionality in the package.

"Freeware" is software that can be downloaded and installed for free. Good examples of this type of software are packages from GNU.
