Media Management Major Description
Students in the Media Management major apply their Kellogg School education to the rapidly changing media. The course work examines traditional and emerging media platforms and provides specialized tools and frameworks to answer the following questions:
- How are media products and businesses different from traditional enterprises?
- What is effective media content, and how is it produced?
- How should media products be marketed and branded?
- What is a contemporary media strategy, and how is it different from traditional approaches used by product and media firms?
Classes include lectures by the core faculty, case analyses, and presentations by visiting media executives, as well as “live” projects with media companies. The faculty for the Media Management major regularly teach senior media executives around the world through Northwestern’s Media Management Center.
The Media Management major is for students who:
- Have a background in media and wish to anchor their Kellogg School education with new insights about managing media organizations.
- Lack a media background but seek a foundation of understanding in order to pursue work in the media.
- Want to prepare for leadership roles in media-related consulting, finance, marketing or vendor companies.
- Seek to understand "the media/information age", but are not planning media careers.
