She stud ies how to design\, deploy\, and evaluate AI systems that empower human de cision-makers and improve societal outcomes.\n \nProfessor Bastani aims to combine methodological depth with implementation in consequential environ ments. She has worked with national governments to deploy algorithms at th e country scale for targeted border COVID-19 screening and essential medic ine access\, and has co-led one of the first large field studies of genera tive AI tutors in high school mathematics. She studies both the mathematic al properties of algorithms and the way people respond to them.\n \nHer re search has been published in leading outlets including Nature\, Management Science\, Operations Research\, and PNAS\, and has garnered numerous reco gnitions\, including the Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Researc h\, the INFORMS Pierskalla Award for best healthcare paper\, and the Georg e Nicholson Prize.
