Valuation Methodology Analysis

Valuemetrics is a financial advisory firm serving primarily privately held family and investor owned small and mid sized companies. The company performs valuations, provides advice about financial structuring, ownership transition and succession, and provides debt and equity placement.

Like any financial consulting company, Valuemetrics has internal methodologies for cost of capital determination, option pricing, adjustments for illiquidity, rendering of solvency opinions, and so forth. Many of the standard techniques require modifications or adjustments for dealing with smaller, privately-held firms.

In this project the team will work with the company to identify a methodological area (for example, cost of capital) review the contexts in which the company applies the methodology, and perform a study to help the company identify best practices and appropriate procedures. For example, if the methodology is cost of capital determination, questions arise such as: how should publicly-traded comparable firms be selected? What adjustments are appropriate for differences in size, capital structure, and marketability of the company?
