The Case for Patents

Abstract

The Case for Patents presents an affirmative case for the patent system. The book emphasizes the importance of incentives for invention, innovation, and technology adoption. Preserving these incentives requires protecting the patent system. More than simply a defense, The Case for Patents is an argument for strengthening Intellectual Property (IP) rights. The main purpose of the discussion is to increase understanding of what patents do. The book provides a non-technical introduction to the law and economics of patents. At the same time, the book introduces new concepts and frameworks that explain the functions and effects of IP rights. The book explains how IP rights support the efforts, investment, and creativity of inventors and innovators.
