The introductory panel will focus its discussion on innovative technology solutions in Africa in addressing some of the challenges facing the continent in areas such as financial services, agriculture and healthcare. In addition, the panel will seek to highlight the opportunities available within Africa and address some of the practical challenges faced; such as securing funding, navigating the regulatory landscape and identifying targets. The panel will feature representatives of technology companies and investors.

This panel will explore the stories of entrepreneurs who have navigated the challenges of starting and conducting businesses in Africa. We hope to bring insight from various regions of the continent to provide participants with a broad context of regional specific challenges and opportunities. They will also discuss some of the opportunities they currently see and practical steps of dealing with some of the challenges unique to Africa.

This session will feature an interactive debate on China, Africa’s biggest trading partner. Chinese investments on the continent has led to accelerated growth in economic development in some countries, providing much needed, roads, schools and buildings. Critics however have questioned China’s motivation to invest, especially as it relates to Africa’s natural resources. The debate will explore both sides of the argument, and participants will walk away with an informed understanding of this complex relationship.
