Florian Zettelmeyer named Professor of the Year

Zettelmeyer, the John L. and Helen Kellogg Professor of Marketing, thanks students for their hard work in the classroom

6/9/2011 - Florian Zettelmeyer was named the 2011 L.G. Lavengood Outstanding Professor of the Year on June 3, honored for his passion, dedication and enthusiasm for teaching MBA students.

After receiving the award, Zettelmeyer returned the admiration, praising students for their commitment to his marketing courses, which are heavily analytical. Zettelmeyer teaches Information & Technology-Based Marketing.

“I’m totally impressed with the hard work you put into the classroom,” Zettelmeyer said. “It’s a huge honor to be a part of that. I love teaching.”
Zettelmeyer, the J. L. and Helen Kellogg Professor of Marketing, has been a member of the Kellogg faculty since 2008.

In addition to the Lavengood award, Zettelmeyer is a past recipient of the Sidney J. Levy Teaching Award and the Impact Award for teaching excellence.

The L.G. Lavengood Outstanding Professor of the Year Award is voted upon by students in the graduating Part-Time and Full-Time Kellogg MBA classes. More than 75 professors were nominated for this year’s award, and four were named finalists.

In addition to Zettelmeyer, the finalists included:

  • Jose Liberti, visiting assistant professor of finance
  • Artur Raviv, the Alan E. Peterson Professor of Finance
  • Steven Rogers, the Gordon and Llura Gund Family Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship
  • Derek Rucker, associate professor of marketing and the Richard M. Clewett Research Professor
Founded in 1975, the L.G. Lavengood Outstanding Professor of the Year Award is named in honor of the late Lavengood, who retired from the Kellogg School in 1994 and died in 2006. A faculty member for more than 40 years, he is still recalled fondly for his legendary teaching skills.

As the recipient of the Lavengood award, Zettelmeyer will deliver the faculty remarks at the Kellogg School's Convocation ceremony on June 17.
