12/4/2009 - International steel company ArcelorMittal has awarded a dozen Kellogg students $50,000 each through its ArcelorMittal Scholars Program.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Ivan Amelong, Patrick Rios Guerrero, Lauren Hirashima, Andre Mitsuo Kimura, Milind Kopikare, James McMicking, Jonathan Printzian, Bryan O’Leary, Keith Radford, Anand Shekhar, Barbara Shultze and Mikhail Sokolnikov, all ’11.

“Being awarded this scholarship recognizes that this school and ArcelorMittal are supporting me in this endeavor,” Sokolnikov said. “They have faith in me by helping me achieve all of my goals to contribute great significance to society.”

The 12 first-year students will receive $25,000 per year for their two years of study.

The students were selected based on their academic performance, professional work background, post-MBA goals, interest in emerging markets and global economies, interest in corporate social responsibility, and leadership experience and potential.

The company has a strong history of support for Kellogg, offering scholarships to dozens of students since 2006. The company’s CEO, Lakshmi Mittal, is a member of the school’s Dean’s Advisory Board.

As part of the scholarship program, the students will meet with a Chicago-based ArcelorMittal executive quarterly and attend exclusive scholar programs with the company. ArcelorMittal created the program to reflect its strong business presence in emerging markets, such as Africa, Asia and South America.

“These students were chosen for their aspirations,” said Alina M. González, representative, talent acquisition at ArcelorMittal. “With ArcelorMittal, our focus is worldwide. There is a very select core group of talent and Kellogg is one of those few schools to provide that talent. And what better way to nurture that than with these scholarships?”
