Leadership
Core Series
Leadership
Core Series (LCS) is a program designed for all students
in the Part-Time MBA Program to introduce them to several
aspects of leadership in their first two quarters of
enrollment. The program is a foundational, or core,
leadership experience as you begin to develop your own
leadership skills. Through a series of short academic
workshops, discussion and feedback sessions, and leadership
self-assessment, students will be able to formulate
a plan to continue to develop their own leadership qualities
throughout their academic career at Kellogg. All
new students must attend both of the LCS sessions.
Evening
MBA Students: LCS sessions are held on Saturdays during
the first half of the quarter.
Saturday
MBA Students: LCS sessions are held on Sundays during
the first half of the quarter.
LCS
One
LCS One begins the very first quarter of a student’s
enrollment with a day of academic workshops held at
Wieboldt Hall. Here you will be exposed to a few aspects
of leadership qualities that will anchor your Kellogg
experience. Lunch will be provided in between the sessions.
In High Performance Teamwork, you will learn
about types of high-performing teams, team performance
evaluation, the key challenges and threats to effective
teamwork, and how to overcome these challenges.
Cross-Cultural Negotiations covers the fundamental
concepts for planning
negotiations, managing the negotiation process, and
evaluating the quality of negotiation outcomes. This
workshop includes a simulation exercise that highlights
the concepts that underlie negotiation strategy with
cultural implications.
About
two weeks after your LCS One session, you will receive
an email from us to get you started on a critical assessment
tool— the 360 Degree Leadership Self-Assessment.
The 360 Degree Leadership Self-Assessment tool queries
the students as well as their managers and work colleagues
on several aspects of leadership and will ultimately
provide concrete feedback for the students to develop
their own leadership plans. Students will take this
tool on their own time before the second LCS session
the next quarter.
LCS Two
Students return the next quarter for LCS Two, which
will focus on leadership and how it relates to you as
a Kellogg student and as a professional. You will spend
time understanding the key attributes of leadership
and work on defining your own leadership goals.
Leadership—
Defining Your Path
will focus on leadership and defining one's own path,
taught by a member of the Kellogg faculty, with a portion
spent on how to interpret individual performance reports
from the 360 Degree Leadership Self-Assessment. Using
a matrix of coursework and programs, students can design
their own action plans to help them continue their leadership
growth and development.
Please remember that all part-time students must attend
all of the LCS sessions.
