I want to ensure that the standards of Kellogg remain at the highest level. In order to accomplish this goal, we must uphold the values of integrity, honesty, and respect. The Honor Code is one way in which the Kellogg community defines how those values will be defended so that we may continue to learn in a fair and ethical environment.

Integrity, responsibility, and respectfulness - these values serve as the foundation for the Kellogg community and are captured by the spirit of the Honor Code. I am grateful to serve on the Honor Code Committee and hope to communicate to students the benefits and importance of understanding and following the code.

I am convinced that a strong Honor Code helps to provide students with ethical direction and encouragement to do what is right. The Honor Code provides us with a common set of rules to follow and encourages us to choose prudence in the face of moral uncertainty. I believe that at Kellogg, the Honor Code helps to provide us with a sense of comfort and trust in our fellow classmates and instills in all of us a positive set of rules to live by that we can draw upon at school, in our careers and beyond.

George Bernard Shaw once said “The most tragic thing in the world is a man of genius who is not a man of honor”. This quote underlines the importance of Kellogg’s goal of developing socially responsible business leaders. Kellogg’s student governed honor code system provides a common framework that inspires THE highest ethical standards both within school settings and in our lives beyond Kellogg.

Kellogg’s reputation of developing students with high integrity takes decades to establish and one misstep to tarnish.  The Honor Code asks everyone to consider how their daily decisions impact not only them personally, but also past, present, and future members of Kellogg’s community.

Kellogg students have a unique opportunity to encourage ourselves to act ethically and responsibly before professional settings challenge us to do so.  Our student self-governed system is at its best when met with full community support.  As such, the Honor Code will continue to thrive as long as we bring integrity to Kellogg classrooms and keep it with us when we leave them.

As members of the Kellogg community, it is our responsibility to maintain the highest ethical standards. The Honor Code serves as the blue print for ethical behavior at the school. By following this code, we can continue the strong tradition of academic integrity and personal accountibility that underlies Kellogg’s reputation as a world leader in business education.
