Kellogg’s focus is to develop not only well rounded private equity investors focused on studying business fundamentals. Kellogg’s curriculum focuses on developing students’ focus on operations in line with what the Private Equity Analyst deems important: “enhancing profitability, improving competitiveness, and spurring growth.” Private equity is no longer just about financial engineering, it’s about combining a deep knowledge of management, strategy, economics, operations, marketing, law, organizational behavior with finance and accounting.

Kellogg’s Career Management Center is a powerful resource for Kellogg students pursuing careers in the private equity industry. PEEK works with the Center in organizing frequent speaking engagements by industry insiders. For example, Beth Hoffman, Principal Berkshire Partners (KSM ’97) recently spoke at Kellogg about unique recruitment strategies.

Current Kellogg students with experience at Warburg Pincus, Madison Dearborn Partners, First Reserve Corporation, and ArrowPath Venture Partners recently spoke about their experiences as private equity Associates. Kellogg’s Annual Private Equity Boot Camp, which is partially taught by 2nd year students, educates students on a typical private equity deal, nuances of the LBO model, the leverage finance credit process, as well as the GP/LP structure involved in the formation of a typical fund.
