Housing in Evanston
Northwestern University has two main residences - McManus Hall and Engelhart Hall - where most of the international students live.
McManus
McManus is dedicated to Kellogg students and their significant other but no kids. Students with kids live at Engelhart Hall, a few blocks away from McManus. McManus offers great facilities i.e. a physical training room, many study rooms, network connections and the rooms are furnished. You will still have to buy your own TV set. The atmosphere is fantastic. It is useful for most of the students to live in the same building since it become extremely convenient to meet for group assignments during the winter. The rent varies between $800 and $1,100. Utility charges are included in the rent and telephone calls between McManus rooms are free of charge.
Englehart Hall
Engelhart looks like McManus and has similar facilities. This residence is not a "Kellogg Only" residence like McManus and houses many Northwestern PhD students. Only Kellogg students with kids live there. Family life is made easier since your kid will find other kids to play with and you will get help from other students about local schools and family activities.
Other Accomodation
If you want to rent a place, you will have variety of choices all around Evanston and even in Chicago. Rent varies a lot and might be less expensive if you put some effort in your search. Unlike McManus or Engelhart (where you don't pay utility bills), you should expect to pay for utilities in addition to rent.
