What Has Been HBSA doing?

Pardon the demure bullet list, we've been busy this year....

  • Pre-Term Day - Before classes even started, we went through 6 hours of how to survive Business school for the incoming 1st years
  • Mentoring Program - We set up mentors for each of our 1st years, regardless of what their interests are
  • Kick Off Meeting - We meet at least once a month to outline the month ahead and the events we're planning...food included.
  • First Year Essentials - Academic Check In- We had to check in with the 1st years, make sure they were comfortable in their classes, were going to the right classes and brushed up on the art of reading cases in under an hour
  • Leadership Conference - Xiomara, a 2nd year, chaired this conference with some of the premier thought leaders in this space
  • First Year Essentials: Career Workshop - Roxanne Hori, Head of the Career Management Center, gave us a useful presentation on preparing resumes, navigating NSHMBA employers and overall career targeting. Directed exclusively at HBSA, her two dozen years of experience helped immensely.
  • NSHMBA Prep w/ a large employer- A half dozen Kellogg alumni at a large company came to help us prepare for navigating the immense NSHMBA conference we'll be attending in November. They gave us inside recruiting and interview tips that will be put to good use.
  • Social @ a 2nd Year's Apartment-Everyone had to take a breather...
  • First Year Essentials - Course Bidding - Figuring out what classes to take and how to bid for classes is often daunting. We spent an hour in large and small groups strategizing the process, sharing 2nd year secrets
  • NSHMBA- Alumni dinner - We sat down to meet with Kellogg Alumni at NSHMBA, often regarded as an event some of the best relationships Kellogg students have developed in their time here. At NSHMBA, students accessed over 300 top employers and were given an opportunity to interview at the event.
  • Kellogg Preview Weekend - In conjunction with the Black Management Association and Kellogg African Business Association, we held a preview weekend for prospective students
  • Co-sponsor KPW TG - We co-sponsored a TG (Friday social event) with the Finance club to highlight the Kellogg Preview Weekend.
  • Buddy Program
  • Minority Networking Reception - The hoi polloi of banks, consulting firms and large corporations sponsor a unique event targeted exclusively at minorities. We limited company attendance to approximately twenty (from the several dozen interested) to reinforce tight-knit interaction.
  • John Deere Speaker
  • San Jose Consulting Group Speaker - See story
  • Ski Trip Brunch - While at Vail, a group of students met up to celebrate the end of a phenomenal first semester
  • DAK - A group of students are working together to plan events to help admitted students get to know Kellogg. Send us an email if you want to be in touch!
  • Recruiting Preparation - Nearly every 2nd year is involved with personally mentoring and steering 1st years through the recruiting process and helping them dig deep into the options. It's amazing how many choices there are to make and having the ability to Skpye someone at midnight is invaluable to talk to is invaluable.
  • HBSA Spring Kickoff Social - A large number of 1st years have returned from their GIM trips with stories to regale of late nights in Tokyo and CEO meetings in Moscow. Meanwhile, the 2nd years are well tanned and rested from Spring Break trips all over the world. Off to Fiesta Mexicana to reminisce.
