Upcoming Events

Over the last couple of weeks, CBC began several initiatives.  Please find below updates on the various initiatives.  We greatly appreciate students volunteering to contributing and improving these initiatives.

-       First Year Directors Selected:  Congratulations to all the students selected to be first year directors.  We are going through a transition phase to get them involved in our various initiatives shortly

-       IB and Consulting mini groups:  We have formed informal min groups for those interested in IB and Consulting.  Students in these groups collaborate on recruiting efforts and gain support from second years who serves as advisors.

-       MOSAIC:  MOSAIC is coming up and we will be electing a first year director to represent CBC in this initiative.  Details to come.

-       CBC Website Revamp: Spearheaded by Kevin Kan (KSM ’09), CBC will be getting a NEW website.  We really appreciate the efforts Kevin is dedicating to the website.  We will be adding a section for prospective students and we hope CBC members can contribute.

-       K-Smart Initiatives:  We are recruiting for students to host Kellogg Open Day in HK, Shanghai and Beijing.  We hope students who are returning to these countries will help organize an event and recruit more students from these respective cities and regions surrounding these cities.

-       CBC Treks and GIM Leadership:  On behalf of CBC community, we would like to congratulate students who are investing their time to lead CBC Treks and GIM Classes.

Student Image                                           What did you do before Kellogg?

I have a background in Chemistry.  Prior to Kellogg, I worked at Pfizer Global Research & Development (PGRD) for more than five years as a medicinal chemist.  My main responsibility was to design and synthesize pharmacologically active molecules for testing in animals.  This is the very early stage of the lengthy drug discovery process.

What was your major at Kellogg? What were some clubs you joined while at Kellogg?
I majored in Marketing and Finance.  I have signed up for many clubs, including professional, cultural and entertainment clubs.  The clubs that I was mostly heavily involved were Chinese Business Club, Greater China Business Conference,  Biotech & Healthcare Club and Soccer Club.

What was one of the most memorable Kellogg moments?
The day when our very first Kellogg Greater China Business Conference was held in Jacobs Center was the most memorable day for me at Kellogg.  The conference executive team put tremendous amount of time and efforts to ensure the success of the conference, from winning approval form school, finding speakers and sponsors, to running the conference on the day.  I am most proud of the fact that it was purely student-run and everybody involved was an equally important contributor.

In hindsight, what is one thing you wish you did while at Kellogg?
There are too many things I wish I would have done or done differently at Kellogg.  If I have to single out one thing, I wish I would have taken more MORS classes.  No matter which function we start our career after Kellogg, be it banking, consulting or operation, we come to Kellogg to be future business leaders. MORS can help us develop individual leadership skills, understand organizational cultures and learn how to be an effective leader in different working environments.

What one piece of advice would you offer to a current Kellogg student?
By now, I believe you already have a very good idea about Kellogg and life at Kellogg.  You should all enjoy the school life since this is the only lengthy break you will get in many years.  Professionally, I would encourage you to plan your career in a very long term and act accordingly.  I personally don’t believe in Trial and Error, so pick your first job carefully.  Because once you get out of school, it is hard to change career due to the lack of professional experience.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Chicago/Evanston?
Drive to Lincoln Park – there are many good restaurants there.
