University Housing

A Quick Summary

Approximately 30% of all Kellogg students live in University housing. Almost all choose to live in McManus, Kellogg's very own "living learning center," while a small handful live with other graduate students in Engelhart Hall.

This page has information on both University housing options as well as a check list outlining the steps for obtaining university housing. We've also compiled some of the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) to help make your decision easier. McManus information includes photos and prices.

McManus Center
Kellogg's McManus Living/Learning Center is a unique seven-story apartment complex designed to meet the needs of both single students and married students and their spouses. The center contains 208 living units consisting of one- and two-bedroom apartments, plus single and double studio apartments. Located on the edge of downtown Evanston only three blocks from Leverone Hall, the center offers not just a place to live, but an environment for learning and a true sense of community. Theme parties, talent nights and study breaks make living at the center a socially and intellectually stimulating experience.

The first floor of the center houses a networked computer laboratory with about 12 MS/DOS compatible PCs and five laser printers. McManus apartments are wired for access to the campus network. A number of group study rooms with personal computers and printers, conference tables, and chalkboards make ideal meeting places for the many team projects in which you will be involved. A large multipurpose lounge features a piano, large-screen television with VCR, kitchen, and vending machines. The common areas in the McManus Living/Learning Center are available to you regardless of where you live. Other McManus facilities include a workout room, game room and laundry facilities. McManus offers several sizes and styles of apartments.

Application Process
To obtain housing in McManus, you must complete an application and mail in the $1000.00 tuition deposit by May 1. Approximately seven to ten days after this deadline, applicants will be randomly assigned a number by means of a computerized lottery. Students will be assigned rooms based on this lottery number. Those who are not offered an apartment and those who apply after May 1 will be placed on a waiting list. Four Quarter students will receive notification regarding your housing assignment by the end of May, while six quarter students will hear in June. Please note that over the past few years we have been able to offer apartments to everyone on the wait list by the end of the summer. Those on the wait list will be notified on a first come, first serve basis as rooms become available.

Transferring from one apartment to another within McManus may be possible between your first and second years. Applicants are accepted late in the winter quarter, and transfers take place in September. For more information, please refer to the McManus brochure that has been sent to you. You can also apply for housing in McManus on-line.
