The McManus Living/Learning Center
Why live at McManus | Apply Online | Facilities | Policies | For more Information

The McManus Living/Learning Center is a seven-story apartment complex designed to suit the needs of Kellogg students, their partners and families. Conveniently located in downtown Evanston near restaurants, banks, stores and public transportation, the McManus Center is only three blocks from the Jacobs Center, where Kellogg full-time classes are held and where faculty maintain offices.

About 300 students and 50 partners live in McManus' comfortable furnished and unfurnished apartments. The 208 living units consist of one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as single and double studio apartments. A few double studio apartments are designed to accommodate families with up to two children.

Why live at McManus?

McManus provides a sense of community for students, partners and families new to the area. The McManus Living/Learning Center is occupied solely by Kellogg students and visiting scholars, so it's a great place to make social and professional contacts while also offering privacy and the benefits of apartment living.

Convenient Leasing

Leases at McManus are for the school term only (June to June for One-Year MBA students and September to June for Two-Year MBA students). For students whose summer internships and post graduate jobs are not in Evanston, this allows for a significant cost savings of up to 3 months rent during each summer. McManus does not require in-person signing of leases; instead you are able to do complete the lease online, making it possible to secure housing without an additional trip to Evanston. No credit report is required with your application, and McManus only requires a $300 non-refundable deposit to secure your apartment, once you receive an assignment. This deposit will be returned to your student account once you move into your apartment.

Utilities Included

McManus rent includes heat, electricity, gas, water, basic cable TV, wireless Internet access throughout the building, high-speed connections to the Internet in each apartment, and free printing from your apartment to the ground-floor computer lab. Your phone service is provided by Northwestern Technologies Group. There is no monthly fee; instead, you simply pay for the local and long distance calls you make. All utilities are already established when you check-in, saving you the hassle of making advance arrangements and paying deposits that are required in off-campus housing.

Apply Online

To apply for housing, complete the online McManus application at or contact Fran Langewisch at f-langewisch@kellogg.northwestern.edu or 847-491-2828. Please note that acceptance of this application does not guarantee that housing will be provided.

All admitted students will have access to the online housing application in early April. Students who have submitted their tuition deposit to our admissions office indicating their intent to enroll, and who have also submitted their McManus Living/Learning Center applications by May 1, will be randomly assigned a lottery number. Apartment assignments will be made according to the lottery numbers. Students who submit their applications after May 1 will be assigned apartments on a first-come, first-served basis. If we are unable to accommodate all the requests, a waiting list will be established and assignments will be made from the waiting list throughout the summer.

You will be notified of your apartment assignment via email. You must then confirm the assignment by submitting your $300 housing deposit to the University Housing Office. Once the deposit is received, you will be sent an email link to your online housing contract so that you can sign and submit it.
