“I fell into real estate finance unexpectedly, just knowing I wanted to work in investments after undergrad, but now it is hard to imagine working outside of the real estate industry” says Natalia Todorov, KSM ’10 and winner of the 2009 CREW Scholarship.

CREW (Chicago Real Estate Women) is the preeminent organization for senior-level executive women in the Chicago real estate field. The organization annually awards one or two scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students majoring or concentrating in real estate, construction, facility management, architecture, urban planning, real estate law, land economics, real estate appraisal or related real estate fields. The scholarships are primarily awarded on the basis of academic excellence and are intended to help qualified students pursue an education that will lead them into productive careers in commercial real estate.

“We chose Natalia because her accomplishments at school, work experience, and social involvement prove she is a leader. We are proud to support her as she continues her productive career in Real Estate” says Jeanne Stewart, co-chair of CREW Chicago.

After graduating from UC Davis, Natalia took a job with Prudential’s Real Estate group doing loan origination. She rose to a senior associate level in her 4 years with the company and developed a passion for real estate. Her motivation for coming to Kellogg was not to change careers, but to enrich and round out her skill set.

“When you work on a deal team, you don’t see the big picture in terms of raising capital and sourcing deals. I wanted a more upper level understanding of how the process works and a well rounded management education so I decided to pursue an MBA”.

At Kellogg Natalia is an active leader in the Real Estate Program and has represented Kellogg in several real estate competitions. As Academic Co-chair of the Real Estate Club, she has been instrumental in bringing valuable training to campus and introducing new classes to the real estate curriculum.

After Kellogg Natalia has her eye on real estate private equity. “In the near term I would like to have some experience on the equity side since I am coming from a lot of debt experience” Natalia says. “Ultimately I see myself as a portfolio manager at a private equity or investment fund”.

As her track record at Kellogg and winning the CREW scholarship indicates, Natalia is committed to continual learning and achieving and poised to do great things in real estate.
