Important resources

Data resources:

Bibliographic resources:

All of these resources have links in the Research Computing site. Reference sites and electronic sources of academic papers are available under "Reference and Papers", while full text sources (where you can retrieve the text of newspaper and trade magazine articles) are under "Data." Although the library is progressively moving towards electronic resources, many publications are stil available only in hard copy.

To find whether a publication (a journal or other periodical) is available in electronic format:

  1. Point your browser to NUcat
  2. Type the title of the journal in the "Search" box
  3. Select "Journals" under "Search in" and hit the "Search" button.
  4. Nucat will produce a list of holdings, including electronic access if available:
  5. If the periodical you are looking for is not available at NU, you may use the library's Interlibrary Loan service.

Software links

The six "special software" workstations in the Jacobs computer laboratories have Matlab, SAS, Stata, SPSS, and Systat, among other tools, installed, in addition to the standard configuration. There are three additional workstations, with the same configuration, in the computer lab in Wieboldt Hall. Please refer to the Software and Manuals pages in this web site for more information about these packages. For a list of all the software available in the "special software" workstations, please refer to Kellogg's Public Computing pages.

Stata:

Note: A full sets of Stata manuals are available in the TSC (room 163 in Jacobs) and in the Wieboldt library. Stata is installed in the special software machines (4 computers in the Andersen Lab and 2 in the Extension lab).
