UNIX SUPPORT POLICY

Requesting Research Computing technical support:

Please contact research computing if you have any requests or problems.

Support for Skew3, Kellogg's Unix server

  • Skew3 is cared for by the Northwestern University ITCS Computer Center Staff at 2020 Ridge.  The Kellogg Research Computing Staff provide direct Unix support to all researchers at Kellogg, as well as serve as the liaison between researchers and the ITCS Staff.

  • Skew3 data backups are carried out nightly.

  • Skew3 users will be notified in advance of scheduled downtime.  Skew3 maintenance downtime is generally scheduled for a Sunday morning.

  • If Skew3 appears to be down, please contact research computing during normal business hours. Outside normal business hours, you may call the NU ITCS Help Desk at 491-4992 or email the ITCS UNIX administrator at root@skew3.kellogg.northwestern.edu.

Individual Unix workstation support

  • Support for individual UNIX workstations owned by Kellogg is provided by the Kellogg Research Computing Staff (not by ITCS Staff).

  • Kellogg currently supports Hewlett Packard and Sun Unix workstations. Support is only for computing functions directly related to research computing. Kellogg does not support email and web hosting functions on individual UNIX workstations.

  • Data backups of individual UNIX workstations are carried out nightly.
