Understanding the Consumer Post Crisis

Chisoo Lyons, Vice President, Analytics, FICO, is based out of San Rafael California and leads FICO’s research agenda for market-facing innovation initiatives. Throughout her career, Chisoo directed efforts to keep FICO at the forefront of analytic and decision technology, and has spent time in client-facing roles, research & development, and business management.

Yan Chang (KSM EMP63)

Risk Management after the Crisis

Yan Chang, Vice-president, Risk Management, Discover Financial Services, is responsible for risk policies and strategies of all credit card portfolios (including consumer, student, and small business) and underwriting criteria of all non-card lending (including personal loans, student loans). Prior to this, Mr. Chang was VP of Acquisition Risk Management. Mr. Chang joined Discover Financial Services in 1999. Mr. Chang worked for GE Capital and First National Bank of Chicago (now JP Morgan) before joining Discover.

Mr. Chang holds a MBA from Kellogg School of Management and a MS in Statistics from the University of Cincinnati.

Matt Feldman (KSM '86)

The impact on consumers of the housing finance crisis and housing finance reform

Matt Feldman became President and CEO of Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago in April 2008. Mr. Feldman was Executive Vice President, Operations & Administration of the Bank from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Feldman was Senior Vice President-Risk Management of the Bank from 2004 to 2006 and Senior Vice President-Manager of Operations Analysis of the Bank from 2003 to 2004. Prior to his employment with the Bank, Mr. Feldman was co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Learning Insights, Inc. from 1995 to 2003. Mr. Feldman conceived, established, financed and directed the operations of this privately held e-learning company. Mr. Feldman was President of Continental Trust Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Continental Bank from 1992 to 1995 and Managing Director-Global Trading and Distribution of Continental Bank from 1988 to 1992 as well as having served in a number of other roles during his 15 years at Continental Bank. Mr. Feldman holds degrees from Case Western Reserve University and the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University, where he remains an active member of the Kellogg Alumni Council.

William Farrow (KSM '79)

President and CEO Urban Partnership Bank

William Farrow is a founding director, President and CEO of the newly chartered Urban Partnership Bank., an urban bank that serves inner-city credit deserts in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland. He has spent the second half of his career on turnarounds, taking companies public, or company repositioning. He had retired after helping to convert the Chicago Board of Trade from a membership to a publicly traded company and working through the merger and acquisition with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange to create the CME Group in Chicago.


Dr. William Panak

Senior Statistician and Scoring Officer, Capital One Financial

William Panak, Ph.D. is Sr. Manager, Statistics, and has developed credit risk management processes for Capital One Financial since joining the firm in 1999. William's work has spanned consumer and small business credit card, consumer and small business lending, lending, mortgage lending, and small business banking, and includes oversight roles in reviewing the statistics practices of other business division. William serves on the board of directors of a national-scale financial services firm. William holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Vanderbilt University.

Russell Walker (KSM EMP64)

Associate Director, Zell Center for Risk Research, Kellogg School of Management

Russell Walker, Ph.D. is the Associate Director of the Zell Center for Risk Research at Kellogg. His expertise is in the application of analytics in business and risk management. His research interests include how organizations, especially risk offices, deploy analytics and leverage information in enterprise risk management. He also studies how firms manage strategic risk for competitive advantages. He is an invited speaker internationally, including at the IESE Business School, in Spain, the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University, in Thailand, and the Indian School of Business, in India. Russell holds an executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and an MS and Ph.D. from Cornell University. Russell is also a former director of the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, where he led a program to assist Hispanic entrepreneurs.
