"Supply
Chain Tactical Planning and OM Research"
Steve
Graves
Abstract
Tactical decision
making for supply chains has been a successful application
domain for OM research. This talk will provide a high-level
overview of tactical planning for supply chains, with a particular
emphasis on the tactics for addressing uncertainty. We will
offer some observations on how current planning systems handle
supply chain uncertainty, where OM research has had some value
and impact, and where there are opportunities for additional
research. We will share some general lessons and caveats from
our experiences with applied research in this domain. We conclude
with some research needs for developing decision support to
improve supply chain planning and design.
