Kellogg PEVC Reaching New Highs

Kellogg’s coordinated effort around PEVC is paying off.  The Heizer Center, Finance Department, and Admissions Office have been focused on attracting and developing highly qualified students with a background in PEVC.

Linda Darragh

Linda Darragh Joins Kellogg’s PEVC Team
Linda Darragh joined Kellogg on July 1, 2012, as Executive Director of the Heizer Center for Private Equity and Venture Capital and the Levy Institute for Entrepreneurial Practice. In this role, she will be Kellogg’s senior administrator overseeing and integrating our curricular, co-curricular, and alumni outreach activities in venture capital and private equity, entrepreneurship, and social enterprise.

Navigating Linda’s return to Kellogg as our lead senior executive in this area is a major accomplishment. She is a cornerstone of the Chicago entrepreneurship community and recognized globally as a leader in entrepreneurship education.

From 1999 - 2005, she was part of the entrepreneurship team at Kellogg. Since then, she's served as the Director of Entrepreneurship Programs at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she's been instrumental in furthering entrepreneurship.

Trek’s Put Students at the Conference Table
This year the students kept busy with 8 PEVC treks.  During a trek ~10 students have the opportunity to meet with professionals from PEVC funds.  The treks are a great way to learn about what differentiates a fund and how each fund views the changing investment landscape.  There were both Private Equity and Venture Capital treks to each of the following 4 cities: San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Boston.

PEVC Club Co-Chair ‘Sign-off’
The graduating class of 2012 has the highest number of students with pre-MBA experience in the PEVC space in the history of Kellogg; therefore, it is of little surprise that the PEVC Club’s presence among the student body has become increasingly important.

Kellogg Launches “Pre-Matriculation PEVC Internship”
Kellogg, in cooperation with the Heizer Center for Private Equity and Venture Capital, is pleased to announce the launch of the Pre-Matriculation PEVC Internship. The internship will provide an opportunity for a select number of Kellogg’s newly admitted students to gain Private Equity / Venture Capital experience during the summer prior to matriculation.

2012 PEVC Conference Helps Investors Find Growth in the
Next Generation

The 2012 Private Equity and Venture Capital conference took place on February 15th at the University Club of Chicago. The conference’s theme, “Finding Growth in the Next Generation” focused on the opportunities as well as the challenges that lie ahead for leaders in the private equity and venture communities. The conference was attended by over 350 industry practitioners, Kellogg alumni, faculty, and students as the conference continues to showcase Kellogg’s prominence in the private equity and venture capital industries.

Kellogg places 3rd out of 17 teams in Wharton’s LBO Case Competition
Kellogg placed 3rd in Wharton’s LBO case competition by putting together a balanced proposal which focused on strategy in addition to pricing and capital structure. The team members included: Andrew Leed (1Y ’12), Mark Pomeroy (2Y ‘13), Danielle Qi (1Y ’12), Sidharth Sridhar (1Y ’12), and Connor Wilson (JD/MBA ’13).

  • Give a Presentation. The PEVC Club seeks to host industry speakers on topics such as investment case studies or industry trends. Please contact Matt Monson ’13.

  • Host a Buyout or Venture Lab student. The increase in PE & VC experiential learning lab opportunities has been a strong contributor to Kellogg’s growth in the PEVC community. If you are interested in hosting an unpaid / for-credit student for one to two days a week, contact Professor David Stowell.

  • Host a PEVC trek or student event. Want to host students at an upcoming PE or VC trek in your city? Would you like to help organize a joint Kellogg alumni and student event? Contact Matt Monson ’13.

  • Mentor a current student.  Help a current student navigate the PEVC industry. Contact Matt Monson ’13.

  • Be a guest lecturer. Visit one of Kellogg’s PEVC courses. Courses for 2012-2013 are:
