| FIRST ASSIGNMENT: The syllabus is in the course packet. Alternatively, you can get a copy off the web page (see below). Lecture outlines also are in the course packet. I recommend that you bring lectureoutlines to class. In the first lecture, I will provide you with an overview of the course. We willalso discuss what is meant by market efficiency, and why this matters – or does not matter – tofirms’ financial decision makers. We will typically cover two lectures per class. For the firstclass, please bring the outlines for Lecture 1 and Lecture 2. To prepare for the first class, you should read (in this order) Chapters 13, 9, and 24 of Brealey, Myers, and Allen Principles of Corporate Finance. Also read the newspaper article "Are markets efficient?" This article is included in your case packet. You should also remember to bring your name plate to the first and subsequent classes. The web page will be used as the primary mechanism for transferring documents. Lecture outlines, problem sets, problem set solutions, and previous exams will all be made available on the web page. In addition, files that you will need to complete cases and problem sets will reside on the web page. To read these files, you must have Adobe’s Acrobat Reader. If you do not already have this software installed on your machine, click on the Adobe hypertext. You will be transferred to Adobe’s homepage where you will be able to download the software free of charge. The address of the course web page is: http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/faculty/polk/d41/ Due to intellectual property concerns, articles and cases will not be available on the web page; these materials can only be found in the course packet. |
