First class assignment:
Read:
- Textbook MBPF: Chapter 1.
- Case: Shouldice Hospital
- Start reading The Goal (there will be an assignment in the 2nd half of the class).
Be prepared to discuss the following questions:
- In a business context, what is meant by operations?
- What are the competitive priorities faced by a typical business (service or manufacturing)?
- What role does Operations play in achieving these?
Case: Shouldice Hospital. Be prepared to discuss the following questions:
- Apply the process view to Shouldice Hospital: what are the key process features?
- What are Shouldice’s competitive priorities? What kind of market have they chosen to focus on? How does their operations strategy support their business strategy?
